The manufacturing process has also changed over the years, because today high-tech equipment is used and production is much more complex than at the end of the 19th century. Single wall boxes: structure and properties

The basic principle of corrugated board is evident in its simplest design - single wall corrugated board. The eponymous factor of 1 flute cartons, the so-called flute or flute web, is located between the two face sheets. This flute protects the contents of a carton by providing an effective cushioning function, absorbing the physical energy that is applied to the carton or folding box when it is bumped or dropped. In this way, the contents of the carton are reliably protected. 1 flute cartons are also characterised by a comparatively low dead weight. The corrugated sheets produced in Germany have one thing in common, they are sinusoidal. However, the corrugations have different dimensions, which are mostly standardised. The simplest form is the so-called A-shaft, a coarse shaft. This was already used for the production of the first corrugated cardboard at the end of the 19th century and has proven itself since then. In addition to the A-flute, there are also boxes with N-flutes and G-flutes. Single wall boxes: The production

The first step in the production of a single wall carton is to create the corrugated web. In order to produce the corrugated web, a paper web passes through the so-called corrugating unit in a kind of ondulation process. This fluting unit contains two fluting rollers between which the paper web is guided, thus creating the fluting. In the same step, the resulting corrugated web is glued to a smooth paper web, the cover. The result is the single face corrugated board. To obtain an optimal corrugated web that also keeps its shape, the paper web is first moistened and then heated in the following forming process with the help of one or both heated corrugating rolls. The shape of the gear wheels of the two corrugating rolls, which are also called corrugating rolls, determines the final shape of the respective corrugations. The corrugating unit also serves as a test for the load-bearing capacity of the corrugated sheets. However, the areas of application for single-wall cartons are all in the lower weight class of cartons, as single-wall cartons are only suitable for lighter packing weights due to their construction.
