Many products need to be handled with special care to avoid dangers. Accidents particularly occur when hazardous materials are improperly packaged or stored. Too often, we hear announcements on the radio that a truck with dangerous cargo has had an accident and that windows and doors should remain closed. Such reports have become part of everyday life. These are not always large tankers and trucks, as even everyday goods are now classified as hazardous materials. Spray cans, matches, and batteries also belong to certain hazardous material classes and must therefore be packed particularly safely in hazardous goods boxes. To guarantee the highest safety for shipping your products, we offer you tested and safe hazardous goods boxes in our shop, suitable for various hazardous materials and modes of transport.

Hazardous materials are goods that contain substances which, due to their physical properties, pose particular dangers and thus endanger public safety. Which products are classified as hazardous materials is determined by legal regulations and the UN classification into hazardous material classes (listed in the "Orange Book"). As one of the few areas, cross-border regulations have been established here, which are updated and reviewed every two years. There are different regulations for the transport of hazardous materials by road (ADR), sea (IMDG), air (ICAO/ITAT), and rail (RID). These are subject to national law, which, similar to the "Orange Book," changes repeatedly. Therefore, it is advisable to inform yourself about changes in hazardous material transport from your logistics service provider or your packaging specialist.

There are countless reasons why certain products are classified as hazardous materials. Most of these goods have properties such as corrosive, toxic, explosive, or highly flammable. To determine the correct hazardous material transport for these products, the UN has divided hazardous materials into nine different classes:

Hazardous Material Class Contained Substances in Hazardous Material
Class 1 Explosive substances
Class 2 Gases and gaseous substances
Class 3 Flammable liquid substances
Class 4 Flammable solid substances
Class 5 Oxidizing substances
Class 6 Toxic substances
Class 7 Radioactive substances
Class 8 Corrosive substances
Class 9 Miscellaneous substances and articles

Each hazardous material class is subject to different packaging guidelines. On the one hand, they are distinguished by packaging class I-III, with I representing high danger and III representing low danger. These hazardous material groups are classified into packaging class X, Y, or Z depending on the packaging effort.

Generally, X-packaging can be used for hazardous materials of class I, II, and III, as these hazardous material packagings are the most complex and safest. Y-packaging, on the other hand, is suitable for hazardous materials with medium and low danger. Z-packaging is only used for goods that pose a low danger. In our shop, we offer you the right packaging for every hazardous material class and every packaging class. More information about our hazardous goods boxes can be found here.

For safe hazardous material transport, not only the packaging but also the correct labeling of your goods is important. It serves as a warning for special caution during transport, but also for quick information for rescue forces, so they can make the right decisions in an emergency. For safety, hazardous materials are labeled three times during transport: on the hazard label with danger labels, on the accompanying document, and on the goods themselves with the orange warning panel. The hazard labels differ in color and symbol for each hazardous material class.

To prevent toxic substances from leaking during hazardous material transport, your goods should also be sealed. Here, derkarton.net uses filament tape, which securely seals hazardous materials and is already integrated into the hazardous material packaging.

All boxes from derkarton.net are approved for shipping with 4G and 4GV. With our express delivery, you can ship your hazardous materials on the same day.
