"What will the hot autumn bring us?" is what many retailers and manufacturers are currently asking themselves.

The current challenges are focused on high inflation, the threat of gas levies and minimum wage increases.

Current reports from the market for solid board and corrugated board base papers announce further significant price increases until the end of the year.

Despite weaker purchase volumes and high inventories, paper prices are still stable this month. The paper manufacturers' shutdown measures are continuing and production is being reduced to cope with the high manufacturing costs. Conversely, however, the high demand is no longer being met, which is cutting into the market.

Considering the last energy cost increases already implemented (03/2022) and the current further steps in the sector, the paper price should increase by up to €250/t in the near future according to the manufacturers. That would be a price increase of up to 12.5% for your paperboard. However, these figures fluctuate between 20 - 30 % across the entire market. We still have to wait and see when they will finally be valid.
